I'd rather take a screenshot...
“A lot has been said about digital interfaces... design, power, politics, sociality, conflict, labor, extraction, surveillance, capital, culture, memory, archeology, geology, of course also topology, ontology, ecology, ...
All sorts of things have already been said about digital interfaces ... some interesting, some funny, some stupid, some insightful while others just plain boring, some refreshing, some inspiring, some detrimental, some depressive, some delusional, some deceptive, some already forgotten or yet to be heard.
Already soo many things ... I'd rather take a screenshot....”
In this exhibition, Kamo showcases his meditations around mobile interfaces. Focusing on the screenshot as a digital landscape, looking at UI through the lenses of painting. The drawings series explores different forces moving across the display of a smartphone. With a practice situated between journaling and rendering, Kamo traces a wireframe of contemporary UI, as well as exploding it towards many different alternative directions.
On the occasion of the opening, Doriane Timmermans will give a presentation to shine some light on the process and inspirations behind the works on display. During the evening I'd rather take a screenshot... and in the meantime I'll romanticize the fuck out of practicing will set the coordinates to navigate screenshots not only as a format, but also as practice.
On Saturday, April 19th, the DIWO Working Group (Chaeyoung Kim and Kamo) will host the workshop Smartphone Camera Obscura. A hands-on activity from the Draw It With Others project. Bring your own smartphone, and be ready to take some screenshot in the analog way (literally tracing the screen) with pen & paper! Be sure to reserve your spot! Partecipation is free of charge and on RSVP.

Doriane Timmermans grew up in Belgium and live in Bruxelles. Has an infinite love
for the idea of designing with words
and language. Likes to think about systems and automatised processes as sensible mediums. Tries to question
tools by
looking on what they make us do, as much as what they do. In 2021 has joined Open Source Publishing, and makes
websites & conversations.
Since 2023, coordinates an artistic research on CSS and the crafts of designing with language, called
declarations.

Draw-it-with-others (DIWO) explores drawing as a free and open source
practice. By using drawing as an entry point to
think about authorship, circulation, collective work and situated tools, DIWO research how technology
organizes togetherness, and how togetherness affects technology.
